The Thai Student

In 2018, a Thai student moved to America with his mother. He arrived in America speaking only Thai and with practically no English vocabulary. Now, He is attending high school as a Freshman.

He enjoys playing video games such as FIFA and NBA 2K in his free time. He also enjoys watching sports. He is a big fan of the Manchester Men’s Soccer team and the Dallas Maverick Basketball team. He watches them whenever he gets a chance.

Throughout his time in America, he has been the only Thai student in his school. He feels somewhat lonely in his endeavor to learn English, which in turn makes learning English harder to learn. He is surrounded by students from a variety of cultures in his main classroom, the English Language Learners classroom. The majority of the students come from Spanish-speaking countries. Watching them, he wishes he had someone he could talk to with ease. Although he seems quiet, he likes to socialize at school because he gets to see his friends from middle school and has opportunities to make new friends.
